Caramelized Baked Barbecue Chicken Drumsticks Recipe
Prep Time: 10 min | Cook Time: 50 min | Yields: 8 drumsticks
+ 8 chicken drumsticks
+ 3/4 cup whole wheat or spelt flour
+ 1 tsp paprika
+ 1 tsp garlic powder
+ 1/2 tsp sea salt
+ 1/4 tsp chili powder
Barbecue sauce
+ 1 cup tomato sauce (DIY recipe here)
+ 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
+ 1/4 cup honey
+ 1 tbsp tamari sauce
+ 1 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
+ 1/2 chili pepper, thinly sliced
+ 1/2 tsp dry mustard
+ 1/4 tsp garlic powder
+ 1/4 tsp onion powder
+ 1 tsp sea salt
+ pinch cayenne pepper, to taste
Preheat oven to 425ºF / 220º C. Mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, sea salt, and chili in a small bowl and generously apply a coating of dry rub to the chicken drumsticks.
Spread the floured legs on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet and bake for about 40 minutes, flipping halfway through.
Increase oven temperature to 500ºF / 250ºC. Mix the barbecue sauce ingredients in a medium bowl and stir the cooked drumsticks in the sauce to coat them evenly.
Bake for another 10 minutes until tender and juicy on the inside and caramelized on the outside. Serve and enjoy!
